In the quiet morning rhythm of Holy Spirit Seminary, one moment stood out to Harold, a second-year seminarian, that he says he’ll never forget.
“I woke up, went down to breakfast, and realised: I’m a seminarian. I’m exactly where God wants me to be.”
It’s the kind of peace that many discerning a vocation long for. Clarity, calm, and a deep sense of purpose. For Harold, that certainty has come at the end of an unexpected path. A recent convert to the Catholic faith, Harold moved from a small town in Canada to the Sunshine Coast with his family. He’s still learning how to ice skate – in Queensland of all places – but what truly sets him apart is his joy, his devotion, and his hope to become, as he puts it, “fully alive in Christ.”
At Holy Spirit Seminary, Harold has found education and community. Through your generosity, young men like Harold receive world-class theological and pastoral formation, live and pray in community, and are equipped to serve real people in real parishes across the Archdiocese. Each day brings the blend of study, service, and prayer that shapes not just minds, but hearts.
When asked to describe life at the seminary, Harold didn’t hesitate. He reached for his weekly timetable, scribbled over with notes and reflections, and said simply, “It’s not just study. It’s my life. And I’m so grateful to live it.”
Fr Neil Muir, Rector of Holy Spirit Seminary, recently reflected on how every vocation is unique, and every one is sacred. “This is the heart of the seminary, a place where prayer and real life are woven together – and where, thanks to the generosity of our donors, young men are quietly becoming the priests our Church needs.”
Your donations offer these young men a home. A place to grow, to listen to God’s voice, and to answer His call with courage. As Harold put it, “I remember making my baptismal vows. Becoming a seminarian felt like the next step in becoming the man God is calling me to be.”
As we approach the end of financial year, Holy Spirit Seminary invites you to prayerfully consider supporting the formation of our future priests. Your gift makes a lasting difference in their lives, and in the lives of the people they will one day serve.
