About Music at the Cathedral
Music is at the heart of our vibrant Catholic life. The Cathedral’s musical tradition dates back over 150 years, making it one of the oldest musical institutions in the State of Queensland. The Cathedral Music Department provides music for over 400 liturgical services annually, meeting the needs of the Cathedral Parish, the City of Brisbane, and the Archdiocese. Over a quarter of these are choral services, served by a liturgical choir, cantor and organist. In addition to its liturgical duties, the Cathedral Music Department organises a concert series of six concerts annually, facilitates performances by outside groups, runs workshops on areas of interest to church musicians, and maintains professional relationships with other churches and organisations in Brisbane.
About the Fund
With the support of the Cathedral Finance Council, we have established the Cathedral of St Stephen Music Endowment Fund and already have received several donations and bequests. This fund will support music in our Cathedral in perpetuity.
